Finding My Practicum
I was lucky enough to find my practicum with ease, as I was the Social Media Engagement Coordinator during the Fall 2020 semester. The Media, Self & Society social media pages started during my freshman year of college, however Alison and I noticed a need for producing more content, establishing the program's brand, and engaging with students. Although I was offered this position, I found that my prior experience and background in graphic design to be one of the main reasons as to why I was qualified enough to not only fulfill this role, but be one to establish the program's brand and social media presence. And my love for Media Scholars made it a 2-for-1 special.

Work I've Done
For each post, I needed to ask myself the following: 1. What's the best way to promote this? (Instagram feed post, Instagram story, one photo, one video, swipe through of multiple photos/videos, etc.) 2. What do I need to include? (Dates, times, names of people, etc.) and 3. What general style would stand out to our followers and will make them view and engage with the post? (Engagement mainly includes giving the post a like, comment, or repost).
I primarily posted on Instagram and Twitter, however content on both of these came from a variety of sources. Some were designs, some were student made memes or TikToks, and more. The Media Scholars Instagram has a larger following than Twitter, however, I noticed that we engaged with our guest speakers more on Twitter as compared to Instagram - despite posting the same content on both. Many of our guest speakers retweeted, quoted, replied, or liked our Tweets about them as compared to engaging with our Instagram account. Instagram, on the other hand, is where our page had more of a student outreach. Engagement amongst students on the Instagram page was significantly higher than that of the Twitter (if I had the stats, I would provide them, but just trust me on this). After noticing this, Instagram became a place where I worked to increase student engagement for both current and prospective Media Scholars.

This slideshow showcases some of the student spotlights I've done thus far. These spotlights include an interview portion that can be found on our Instagram and Twitter. Each post is designed using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
