Moving Forward
The best way I can apply my practicum experience to my life and career moving forward is by taking the knowledge I have gained and applying it to real world opportunities. While I had knowledge about graphic design coming into this internship, I had lacked experience in running a social media page. Through this internship, I have been able to better understand what is needed to run a successful and engaging Instagram and Twitter account. Some of the information I learned revolves around types of posts, ways to phrase an announcement, how to stand out on someone's main feed, and even when is a good time to post to increase engagement. These are things I did not know or understand prior to this position. Because of this opportunity, I can move forward with knowledge, experience, and the skillset needed to make it in the media and digital communications field. I can also apply this to my personal social media usage in order to better understand when businesses, companies, and brands tend to post in order to be the first to know about new information or products. With what I've learned in this internship, I can be more aware of ways in which to connect and engage with others online. Since our online world is only getting bigger and bigger everyday, the skills and knowledge I have gained through this opportunity can be used whenever I engage with online/social media content.

Next Steps
|
For the rest of my time at the University of Maryland, I hope to gain more experience in the media and digital communications field. This upcoming fall semester, I will be a member of the College Park Scholars Student Communications Committee working on social media engagement, graphic design, and photography for the College Park Scholars program as a whole. I am very excited for the opportunity to continue working within College Park Scholars following the completion of my two years as a Media Scholar. I also hope to be invited to join Lambda Pi Eta, the Communications Honors Society, and become a member of the Undergraduate Communication Association (UCA). I am excited to explore these opportunities and see where they lead me in the future.
Following graduation, I hope to join a company as a graphic designer or social media coordinator. Whether this be a large or small role, having the opportunity to continue the work I enjoy is truly all I desire in a career. Ideally, I would like to work at Pantone, Adobe, or a prominent company that has a large following, however, any opportunity in the media and digital communications field is a great one in my eyes. I am excited to see what path my knowledge and experience takes me down - and I will gladly come back to Media Scholars to be a guest speaker! |
